Region/Appellation: Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux
Château Barrail du Blanc produces wines that are exceptional for their depth and consistency. Owned by the same family for over 150 years, this property is located in the commune of Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens, in the south of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation. The vineyard, averaging 25 years of age, is planted on gravel and clay soils that allow for good drainage and are particularly well-suited to Cabernet Franc. The grapes are treated with attentive care by Monsieur Elliès and his daughter, Nathalie, in the vineyard and in the cellar. Ploughing, green harvesting, and leaf cropping are favored in order to ensure a consistent maturity of the fruit. The wine is vinified in stainless-steel and aged partly in French oak barrels (50% new). The resulting wine is charming, supple, elegant, and can be kept for five to ten years.
Grape varieties: 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc
Tasting notes: The bouquet of this Bordeaux red wine enchants with aromas of mulberry, blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry. If we continue to feel the aroma, we add oriental spices, gingerbread spices and cocoa beans. It is wonderfully dry for wine enthusiasts. This red wine never shows coarse or sparse, but round and smooth. This fleshy and silky red wine is impressive and multifaceted on the palate. In the finish, this storable red wine from the Bordeaux wine-growing region ultimately impresses with its beautiful length. Again, there are hints of mulberry and blueberry. It is perfect as a companion to veal table tops with beans and tomatoes, braised chicken in red wine or stuffed peppers.
